Signalfire AI-9 Splicer
We teach splicing using the Signalfire AI-9 (also known as Vevor), which several of our tech grads also use for fieldwork. This budget-friendly splicer has a built-in visual fault locator and optical power meter. It performs well for basic splicing tasks and needs electrode replacement after about 3000 splices. Pros: It is affordable ($600-$1100), lightweight (about 13 lbs), and comfortably handles 48ct splicing tasks. The splicer contains a good-quality cleaver. It's OPM and VFL provide convenience. Its lithium battery can be replaced affordably. The splicer comes with all necessary hand tools for splicing. Cons. It may not be suitable for high-volume splicing, it may not be shock-resistant, and it may stop working in extreme temperatures (hot or cold).
When we work on contracting projects, we regularly see Fujikura splicers. Our work performing moderate to high-volume splicing tasks requires hard-working splicers. We found Fujikura splicers meet our needs and have a strong reputation for reliability and quality. The company makes single and ribbon cable fusion splicers that handle many splicing tasks. A common model we see in fieldwork is the Fujikura 90s Fusion splicer. Pros: Reliable performance and comfortably handles 96ct splicing tasks. These splicers come with stripping tools, a cleaver, a lithium-ion battery, a charger, a USB cable, and a power cord. Price range, new: $11,000+.Price range, used/refurbished: $6800. Cons: None
Fujikura 90s, Single Fiber Fusion Splicer
Fujikura 90R, Ribbon Fiber Fusion Splicer
We are seeing the use of ribbon splicers becoming more common in field work. The hard-working, reliable Fujikura 90R delivers on expectations like its single fiber cousin. Fujikura 90S. The splicer enjoys a good reputation among fiber "operators such as, Buckeye, Comcast, Charter, Cox, Mediacom, Rogers, Spectrum, and Suddenlink, plus well-known industry consultants with vast professional experience," according to a review at Fiber Optic Center. Pros: Splicing accessories: cleaver, stripper, lithium battery, AC power cord, wrench Pitch Conversion Holder: allows V-groove pitch change from 200um to 250um Handles moderate to high volume splicing Cons: High-end splicer, may not be suitable for low volume splicing Pricing: $10,000+
Fiber Project Case Studies
May 2026, Fiber Case Study, Part 1 LJ Power, Enclosure Installation, Summer 2025 Solvent Tank Communications System Installation LJ Power, a South Korea-based electrical distribution components manufacturer, manages distribution systems for a large EV manufacturing plant in North Georgia. Project Challenge LJ Power needed three remote enclosures connected across the facility to support NMP solvent flow management, manage recovery processes, and meet compliance requirements. The work had to be completed within a tight 24–48 hour window to help keep their plant opening schedule on track. Project Needs The installation required clear documentation, fiber identification, and enclosure location verification which the client provided. Upon receiving documentation, our team performed fiber termination, signal continuity testing, and insertion loss testing from the plant's main control cabinet through an elevated ceiling enclosure to the NMP management enclosure. Project Results FiberNexxt completed the assignment within 24 hours. The work helped LJ Power maintain its plant opening schedule, improved system maintenance readiness through reporting and personnel training, and earned positive feedback for quality and professionalism. Project Lessons The installation was completed successfully, but future projects would benefit from a more in-depth site audit and additional technician preparation for signal flow assessment.
