FOI Training for Fiber Tech Credentials

Our instructors offer the Electronics Technician Association International® (ETAI®), Fiber Optic Installer (FOI) certification course, a 5-day program, in Marietta, Georgia, near Atlanta. At our school, trainees learn the FiberNexxt Way™, it is our method of combining theory with practical skills training and exam prep in a comfortable setting. Our class offers:

  • Job readiness on day one after graduation

  • Weekday and weekend classes

  • Practical fiber optics theory

  • Professional-level skills training, including cable prep, fusion splicing, connector termination, basic testing, and OTDR training.

  • Build a small fiber network in class

  • Certification exam Preparation

Registration

  • Standard Fee. $1895 in our classroom. We provide all necessary materials, tools, equipment, and certification exam preparation.

  • Online Fee. $1695 online + $2900 class tool set, total online cost: $4595. Online classes are scheduledby request. Online students receive study materials and exam preparation, but are required to purchase our toolkit or buy tools on their own. If purchasing tools independently, please request a checklist to ensure you have all necessary equipment.

  • Early Registration Fee. $1595 in our classroom. $1395 online + $2900 class tool set, total online cost: $4195. Discounts apply automatically at registration. Sign up 4 weeks in advance.

  • 1-on-1 Training. $2095 in our classroom. $1895 online + $2900 for class toolkit, total online fee: $4795. Train solo with a certified instructor. Speak with a team member to schedule this option.

  • Pay-As-You-Go Training. $895 per class (5 total classroom sessions). $695 per class (5 total online sessions), plus a one-time fee of $2900 for class toolkit (total online cost: $6375). Speak with a team member to schedule this option.

The last registration day is usually midnight on the Monday before the first day of class. All course fees* include a non-refundable $395 deposit that reserves your seat.

What You Need for Our Course

We have minimal requirements, and course features include:​

  • No experience is needed!

  • If you're a classroom student, we provide all the tools and equipment.

  • If you're an online student, purchase our toolkit or buy tools yourself. See the online toolkit section below. Ask about our checklist to ensure your tool purchases meet class requirements. 

What You Learn

We specialize in helping you learn the skills used in splicing inside and outside plant location terminations. Our training covers:

Basic Fiber Optic Theory

Get an overview of how fiber optic work, including:

  • Fiber standards

  • Fiber system components and hardware

  • Fiber terminology

Basic Cable Preparation & Splicing

You'll learn valuable methods, including:

  • Practice cable preparation

  • Review splicing techniques

  • Perform fusion and mechanical splicing

Basic Connector Identification and Termination

Get a review of these techniques, such as:

  • Terminate cables and connectors, including mechanical connectors.

  • Test cable for insertion loss.

  • Learn basic troubleshooting strategies.

  • ​Practice basic documentation skills.

Basic Testing Methods

Understand basic testing procedures, such as:

  • Using a light source and power meter.

  • Operating an OTDR

  • Learning power testing methods

Install a Basic Fiber Network In-Class

Connect a small network using your skills to:

  • Prep, splice, and terminate a simulated location.

  • Conduct 1-cable and 2-cable reference tests.

  • Perform plant insertion loss testing.

  • Complete documentation.

ETA Certification Exam Preparation

Throughout your training we prepare you using methods such as: 

  • Theory and skills reinforcement through quizzes, session reinforcement, and games.

What to Expect After Completing Our Course

Upon completing our course, you should have the following:

  • ETA® FOI certification upon passing the course exam

  • Skills to perform entry-level tasks as an in-house fiber technician or independent contractor

  • Ongoing support by your instructor for your first assignment or contract

 

Although we cannot guarantee job placement, we will refer you to our partners and former clients for work opportunities. Also, we will consider you for available openings on our projects. You will also have access to our instructor-contractors upon obtaining your first assignment. We're happy to answer questions and provide guidance as much as possible to help you succeed.
